2020 was a year like none other that I have ever experienced. The deep divide among the American people fueled by the media grew to unprecedented levels as the pushing of political agenda was at the forefront of EVERYTHING from news, to film, to music, to sports to entertainment. The division grew to violence as attacks, riots and gunplay became common place and even encouraged by many of our politicians and those in the media who supported them. The advent of coronavirus disease 2019 and the worldwide pandemic that ensued threw both our economy and our daily lives into a loop as government took advantage of this outbreak to close down any and all businesses to which they chose leaving many unemployed and many more losing everything they've ever worked for. Profession wrestling was not shielded from this assault on business as the govornment refused to allow public gatherings (save for riots which were permitted and even encouraged) leaving promotions unable to run and wrestlers without a place to work. Add to it the usual political heat that comes from an election year and you have a surefire recipe for a year that nobody wants to ever remember.

Fantasizing a WWE Legends Championship As an old school fan who has been watching professional wrestling longer than I'm willing to admit that I've been alive, I have always held a special appreciation for the old school wrestlers. Even in my childhood I enjoyed seeing Buddy Rogers, Bruno Sammartino, Perdro Moralas, Terry Funk, Harley Race, Nick Bockwinkel and others continue long after others would say they were "too old". So it was only natural that when the guys whom I grew up watching also reached what some would consider an advanced age for sports I would continue to support their participation in the greatest sport in the world. The Effects of Coronaviris on Pro Wrestling When I first sat down to write this blog I had intended to fill if full of beer jokes and fun. After all, during any kind of crisis, no matter how big or small, people are always looking for an escape from their problems in hopes of bringing up their spirits. isn't that what pro wrestling is for anyways? As I began to write it however, I quickly realized that this blog doesn't need to rely on cheep humor because despite this virus, the future of professional wrestling is bright and the industry will continue to thrive! RECORD ATTENDENCEThe UAW Hall in Fairfield Ohio hosted the Northern Wrestling Federation's 13th annual Fan Fest event on August 17th, 2019, a date which will go down in history for many reasons. Not the least of which was the largest attendance ever for the venue. The crowd was packed all around the ring for the outside event. As more and more chairs were brought out the staff was having difficulty placing them all while still permitting sufficient room for the wrestlers to make their way to the ring. As space began to run out, new chairs had to be added to the INSIDE of the building so that fans could watch the event through the window. It was almost like having a sell out venue and then packing even more people into a nearby venue to watch on closed circuit TV. How Hulk Hogan Made Me "The Boss" My trek into the world of professional wrestling was not even a planned one. Like everyone involved in the business I began as a fan. Each week I watched all of the wrestling programs in television, I went to all of the events when they came to town, I bought the Pay Per Views, collected all of the action figures and I read all of the magazines in order to keep up even with the companies that were not broadcast in my area. Like all children I dreamed about becoming a wrestler one day but, I was actually quite content with being just a fan. That however would change as the decade of the 80s passed and the 90s began... |
